Search case notes for specific word
Q
Quincy Tse
Summary:
Ability to search all existing cases notes for all clients for specific word/words.
Background:
I use sterile instruments in my practice (as do all podiatrists), and as such I record the steriliser and batch numbers into individual clinical notes. I have been asked by my auditor the process I would go through to identify affected clients should specific batches of instruments were found to be incorrectly processed/faulty manufacturing process/resistant microorganisms. This may be needed for contacting the clients by myself or the public health authority to arrange for screening and/pr prophylaxis.
Current practice:
I have to enter each client's notes history and use the browser search function to find the batch number
Suggestion:
A function to search all clinical notes for a specific string. Preference is for the search to return a link to the patient file(s), though a reporting function may also be acceptable to manually access each file

I also need this for my clinical practice (OT). Currently I export my entire progress notes as a print to PDF and then use a different program to search for old information about a specific piece of equipment to save scrolling 40 pages of notes.

it would be fantastic (for research purposes but also to support clinical practice) to be able to conduct a search in saved clinical notes across all clients to find terms that would be located within clinical notes from a consult (e.g. if patient names are unknown but you want to search for topics discussed / terms mentioned during a consult)

In a multidisciplinary clinic - where everyone is busy, time efficient software is paramount. Having to scroll through a number of different providers notes is messy and time consuming, especially when they do not relate the treatment you are providing.

Is there an update on when this could be implemented? It would be great to filter by case manager/provider

This would be extremely beneficial, we have clients who can be part of several clinics at the same time. Is there an update on if or when this will be implemented?

HI Quincy,Thank you for the suggestion. We are exploring a way to tag and categorise case notes which would then be searchable. This could then allow you to tag a specific case note with the serial number to be searched later. However, we do have an assets feature which will allow you to record a stockable item, assign it to a client and track the date it was issued. Whilst there currently isn't a report for assets and loans, the list is searchable allowing you to find a specific serial number and clients that have been allocated to it. The following help centre articles should help with setting up assets.Create an asset Loan or allocate a client to the assetPlease let me know how you go with this,Andreas

Hi Andreas, I can see how this would be helpful but within a category of patients it would not be helpful to find sub-categories within such tags e.g. for topics discussed during a consult -for the same patient type, to search terms / words/ phrases as per my idea request - eg. if a practice update became available or other new information was required to be updated and passed on to certain clients.
